Welcome to

The
Bilingual Parenting Podcast

Hi! Welcome to the Bilingual Parenting Podcast, presented by Bilingüitos, hosted by Kaila Diaz. We exist to encourage and equip families who desire to give the gift of bilingualism to their children. Raising bilingual children is definitely not always easy, but we believe that it is always, always worth it. Bilingualism IS possible for you and your family, you just need the right tools to work with and the right community around you. We are so glad you’re here. We hope you stick around and spend some time with us so that you can be equipped to cultivate and celebrate bilingualism in your home!

the heart behind it

Since early in my pro-bilingualism career, my motto has been “Cultivating and Celebrating Bilingualism.” I hope you will make it yours as well; for yourself, for your family, for your home, for your students – for whomever is in your circle of influence.

C u l t i v a t e meaning to prepare an environment where bilingualism will be successful, and tend to it, allowing it to grow and prosper. Then c e l e b r a t e, get excited about the growth you see, every step of the way, promoting bilingualism with unabashed positivity. Not only will you see leaps and bounds in your own circle’s bilingualism, but you will inspire others around you to take on a greater language focus. Make it a goal to be an activist for the bilingual community, both majority and minority languages. All language is beautiful and valuable and is worthy of being celebrated. So if you’re ready to get started, jump in! Let’s cultivate and celebrate bilingualism together.

get to know your host

If you want to read my resume type bio, you can find that here on the About page… However, if you want know the real me, here’s all you need to know!

When I’m not in the classroom, you can almost always find me curled up on a sunny window seat with black coffee and [ideally] a good book in hand (though it’s more often a laptop).

If the weather is decent, my go-to activity is hiking or camping with my husband, my camera essentially attached to my eyeball, constantly scanning the trees for a good spot to put my hammock.

The foodie in me will go way (and I mean WAY) out of my way for a good restaurant with a killer vibe and pretty food & beverages (yes, they must be pretty).

When I meet someone new, 99% of the time I find a way to sneakily direct the conversation to linguistics – whether it’s bilingualism, dialectal variation, or just learning what languages they speak, I am a LING NERD to the core!

¿Qué dice la gente?

Couldn’t get enough!

It’s only the intro episode and I absolutely cannot wait for the next!! I am a person who is working on being bilingual, who is an educator, and a future parent who will raise her children bilingual. This really is for anyone and everyone and is already so easy to listen to – enjoyable and informative. So excited for what’s to come!
